inside thoughts on China and beyond

About

Steven Dorgelo 200x200 copyLiving in Chengdu, China, with my wonderful wife and kids, I am observing the rapid change caused by an explosion of modernization.

I’ve always been marvelled, every day again -unless I’m too busy with my work- with the indescribable beauty of God’s creation. Equally stunt am I by the rapid changes taking place all around me, here in Chengdu and beyond. And thus, initially, rather than picking up a pen, I use only my camera to capture this. You can check this out at my photo site. In this fast moving world, I hope my photos (series) will cause viewers to pause and wonder.

For some mysterious reason I have recently found the pen again, so much so that I decided to create this blog. A blog about, well to be honest, about me. But that sounds boring, as honesty often does, so let me re-phrase it: this is a blog about living through the horrifyingly fast changes that is transforming China. To use John Naisbitt’s words: a China that is about to shake of its cocoon and show its butterfly beauties. (This is not an exact quote, but that’s OK, since John’s work isn’t really worthy to be quoted.)

Hi Steven. I may hope the butterfly will not prove to be a dragon[fly]. Your use of the word “horrifying” leads me to suspect that. Otherwise, last year I left China with good feelings. Anyway I wish you good luck with your blog and I may hope that your thoughts may flow freely, and frolic like a brimstone in the air. Your photo’s are beautiful.

  4. Hello Steven,

Really great photography here, and your stories are insightful. Thanks for sharing. I have not yet been to Chengdu but am planning a trip there next April. Hopefully not all the old parts of the city will be gone by then.
